Welcome to the Game Section

2009 Inter-Commands

Welcome to the Game Section of the Royal Navy and Royal Marine Angling Association. We are a long established and well supported element of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines angling fraternity with many members that also dabble in the other disciplines of our sport.

We are a friendly Association and welcome anglers of all levels of ability and experience. The Game section has a healthy mix of serving members, and ex-regulars who make up a strong associate membership. We enjoy a very busy and diverse programme of fixtures throughout the season. This programme is complimented by the separate fixture lists of the individual Commands, the details of which can be found else where on this website or the Association Forum.

The Command Reps co-ordinate their own programmes and provide a wide variety of venues and ample opportunity for anglers to participate as much or as little as they wish. These programmes provide the opportunity to fish from the bank at small stocked waters, try their hand at the challenges of small moorland rivers like the West Dart in Devon and also can provide access to some of the best Chalk stream waters in the South with opportunities to fish beats on the Itchen and Meon.

There are many more opportunities but the focus of the competitive side of the Association is loch style reservoir fishing which, if selected, enables anglers to represent their Service against the other Services and some of the best anglers in the country at all of the top waters. During the 2009 season we have seen the Royal Navy team consolidate their position in group 2 of the Association of Major Fly-fishing Clubs league having secured promotion in 2008. New to our program in 2010 we will be participating in the inaugural Services River Fishing Championships against teams from the Prison Service, Police, Fire Service, Army and RAF.

The event will take place in late June on the Upper Teign River. Another new event is a fixture against Devon and Cornwall Prison Service at Chew in April. To round off the season plans are underway to take a team of serving anglers to the Falkland Islands in pursuit of trout and Sea Trout. This will be the first foreign sports tour undertaken by the RN Game Section since the very successful trip to the Falkland Islands in 2004.

If you are interested in having a go, no matter how inexperienced, feel free to get in touch with your respective Command Rep or through myself using the Game Sec link below. We can put you in touch with local members who will provide sound advice and can often loan some basic tackle to minimize unnecessary initial expenditure. If this is not sufficient, membership also gives access to the vast collective knowledge base of some very experienced and skilful anglers who are always open to help others and pass on information and advice.
