Report
The annual 'Icebreaker' meeting took place on 5 March at Meon Springs with a total of 19 anglers taking part (including 3 members of the Rother Valley Fly Dressers Guild and 2 guests). Everyone excepting Robbie Pearce caught their quota of 3 fish to retain and the winner, Dave Walker added 8 from the catch and release pools. Largest fish of the day at 5lb 7oz was caught by Kim White of the Fly Dressers Guild.

There were plenty of fish and many people bagged up early and went on to C/R. Tim Saunders had some fish (taken from the Meon Springs returns book) but did not weigh in. Tom Joyce brought along his young son George who took a fish which will hopefully give him the 'fishing bug'.

Weather conditions were relatively kind, being a dry, though rather cool, day with a chilling breeze - about as good as it comes at this time of year and, from the records was much the same as last year. The water was gin clear enabling fish to be easily sighted and, in the main lake, they were easily tempted. Successful flies tended towards bloodworm patterns though cats whisker was popular with the fish in the main lake as well as anything with a waggly tail or small nymphs.

Overall, a most pleasant day with the service provided by Keith and the Meon Springs staff being well up to their usual high standards. The 3 fish for 2 offer ends on 31 Mar but will go on 'til June for those paying £60 for Meon Springs Membership.
