Navy Carping 2011
Navy Carping has come on in leaps and bounds since the early days of 2006. We have grown from 12 "Carpers" in 2006 to a core of about 35 "Navy Carpers" and, hopefully, we can continue to grow and develop into the largest (Sub) Section of the RN&RMAA.
What have we done?
For the last few years we have held about 5 matches a year, including the RN Championships, fished to British Carp Angling Championship rules, at a variety of venues including runs waters (Brasenose 2), difficult waters (Velocity) and exclusive waters (Waterbeach). From these matches the team for the Inter Service championships is selected. Last year both the Navy Championship and the Inter Services were held at Brasenose 2, Linear Lakes in Oxford. The RN team came 2nd to the RAF with the Army coming in third. Hopefully we can go one better this year!!! Some of the Association also marshalled at the World Carp Championships again held at Linear Lakes, where they were able to rub shoulders with the some of the best carp Anglers in the world and pick up plenty of tips.
What does the future hold?
This year we have 5 matches planned between the end of March, over the summer, into September. These again will be fished at a variety of locations around the country. There is also a trip to France being planned for this year with the intentions to try and make it an annual event. We also try to have an Section AGM at the annual Carp Society Show during the winter. It is our intention in the next few years of entering a team into the British Carp Angling Championships.
We have come a long way since 2006.
If you fancy coming along for a session at one of the matches, any standard welcome, contact myself and I will gladly put you in contact with the person running the matches. We also promote socials, so if you fancy a weekend away, and would like company, get on the forum and see who is available.
